Malaysia's top lady amateur Ashley Lau booked her spot in LPGA Qualifying School Stage 2.with an impressive T7 finish on 10-under-par in Stage 1 yesterday.

With younger sister Adeline on the bag, the 22-year-old carded rounds of 71, 72, 67 and 68 at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. Lau was only four shots behind winner and fellow amateur Alessanda Fanali of Italy.

The top 100 players and ties advance to Stage 2, which will be played at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida on October 18-21. Among the qualifiers is Singapore's top lady amateur Shannon Tan, who did well to finish T38 on five-under-par in Stage 1 after rounds of 69, 72, 72 and 70.

From Stage 2, a minimum of 30 players will make it into the gruelling 144-hole LPGA Q-Series in Alabama, to be played at Magnolia Grove Golf Course (December 1-4) and Highland Oaks Golf Course (December 8-11).

A minimum of top 45 and ties at the Q-Series will earn LPGA Tour status for 2023, while players finishing outside the top 20 and ties will earn 2023 Epson Tour status.
