Brooke Henderson birdied the last hole to end a six-year wait for her second Major title, winning the Amundi Evian Championship in France by one shot.
The Canadian star rolled in an eight-foot putt at the 18th hole of Evian Resort Golf Club for a closing 71 and a 17-under-par total, edging LPGA rookie Sophia Schubert of the United States by a solitary shot.
Schubert narrowly missed her own birdie attempt at 18 to finish with a 68 and a 16-under-par total, one shot ahead of five players - Mao Saigo of Japan (64), Lydia Ko of New Zealand (66), England's Charley Hull (67), Korea' Hyo Joo Kim (67) and Spain's Carlota Ciganda (68).
Yesterday's incident-filled final round saw 13 lead changes and, at one stage on the back nine, a seven-way tie for top spot. In the end, Henderson kept her cool to triumph with three birdies in her last six holes.
The 24-year-old had a stroke of fortune on the last hole when her she hooked her tee shot, only for the ball to bounce off the trees and back out to the rough. Henderson laid up and sent her third shot to eight feet, draining the putt to seal the victory and claim the USD1 million winner's purse.
“To be sitting here a two-time major championship is just an unreal feeling. My coach, my dad, and my mom's support, and of course Brit (her sister and caddie) who's out there all the time with me ... it's just amazing, and it's going to be really cool when we can all celebrate together," said Henderson, whose first Major win came in the 2016 KPMG Women's PGA Championship at age 18.
Malaysia's Kelly Tan carded a closing 72 to finish in T43 position on three-under-par, picking up a cheque for USD26,365 to take her past the USD1 million mark in career LPGA earnings. Tan moved up to 49th on the tour's 2022 Race to CME Globe standings.
