Malaysian professional Alyaa Abdulghany has qualified for the 2022 US Women's Open to be played at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in South Carolina on June 3-6.
The 23-year-old earned her first start in the prestigious Major championship by emerging as joint winner with American amateur Catherine Park in yesterday's qualifying tournament at Pauma Valley Country Club in California. Alyaa carded successive 69s for a four-under-par total to bag one of only two spots available.
Earlier this year, Alyaa won her first professional title with a one-shot victory in the Dare The Bear Women’s Championship on the East Coast Women’s Pro Golf Tour. She turned professional last year following a stellar collegiate career with the University of Southern California.
The 23 US Women's Open sectional qualifying tournaments in the United States and three international qualifiers (England, Japan and Korea) saw an all-time record of 1,874 entries comprising professionals and elite amateurs.
