Galven Green carded in a four-under-par 68 to take the second-round lead in the Toyota Tour's Tun Ahmad Sarji Open at Saujana Golf & Country Club.
Green's tournament total of seven-under-par gives him a one-stroke lead from Syahiran Syakir (-6) who fired a round of two-under-par 70.
Overnight leader Danny Chia posted an even-par 72 to be in solo third on five-under-par. While six shots currently off the lead with a two-day aggregate of even-par are Edven Ying (71) and last week's Toyota Tour Qualifying Leg One winner Hafiy Suhaili (72).
"It was a bit frustrating at the start, especially the first 14 holes where I missed a lot of opportunities. But I got some back in the end, which played out well," said Green who clinched his maiden professional victory at last year's Alphard Cup.
The 24-year-old began the day from the first tee on the Bunga Raya course and then traded two birdies against two bogeys on his first nine. After the turn, Green picked up the momentum and returned with one eagle and two birdies in the last five holes.
"My irons were decently well, giving me the opportunities I needed, and just overall happy I made a couple of them," he said.
"I'm just going to go out there and do my best tomorrow and not expect much," he added.
Syahiran Syakir, chasing his first Toyota Tour win, started his morning with four birdies through 15 holes. However, in a similar fashion to yesterday's round, he had dropped shots on the 16th and 18th.
"Nothing changed in my mindset today, and in the back of my mind I was trying my best to keep myself in contention," said Syahiran.
"The two bogeys were unfortunate - my ball was embedded in the bunker on the 16th and I missed a short par-putt on the 18th."
Despite it all, Syahiran remains hopeful.
"I'm excited for what tomorrow brings, and hoping to post another good round to end the week and get that win!"
The cut was made at 12-over-par, with a total of 51 players advancing into the final round of this season's opening event on the Toyota Tour, organized by Professional Golf Malaysia and delivered by MST Golf.
In the ladies championship, 2023 Order of Merit (OOM) winner Aretha Pan grabs a share of the lead with overnight leader Geraldine Wong. Pan followed up with a three-over-par 75 to yesterday's 74 for a two-day total of five-over-par, while Wong returned a 78.
"It was hot and tough to walk out there today," shared Pan who hails from Sabah.
"My game was good, but the putts weren't dropping so I didn't make as many up and downs as I'd like. For tomorrow, I'm focusing back on what's going good for me now, and hope to sink more putts since I missed quite a few makeable birdies today," she added.
Wong, on the other hand, was glad her short game cushioned her round despite struggling with her long game throughout the day.
"My chipping came in clutch and I made most of my up and downs, even though my long game was less accurate than yesterday," shared Wong.
Looking to recharge and prepare herself for tomorrow's final round, Wong added, "After some rest, I'm looking to put myself up for as many birdie opportunities as possible tomorrow and try to make those putts."

One shot further back in third position on six-over-par is Ainil Johani Bakar, followed by H.Y Bang on seven-over-par, and the last lady to make the halfway cut on eight-over-par was Jocelyn Chee.
