The inaugural USD 3 million Maybank Championship is set to tee off tomorrow, and the Malaysian lineup is brimming with excitement as they prepare to take on the world's best women players in the world.

A formidable squad of six Malaysian players, including two-time Olympian Kelly Tan, Epson Tour players Ashley Lau, Alyaa Abdulghany, and Natasha Andrea Oon, Malaysia's No.2 amateur Jeneath Wong, and SEA Games gold medalist Ng Jing Xuen, will take on the renowned West Course of Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.

They will be up against stellar stars from the LPGA Tour including Chinese sensation Ruoning Yin, Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul, France’s Céline Boutier, Canada’s Brooke Henderson, Korean Jin Young Ko, and Americans Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz.

Leading the local challenge for the four-day, no-cut Maybank Championship is Epson Tour Rookie of The Year, Natasha Andrea Oon. Having previously participated in the Sime Darby LPGA as an amateur, Oon, currently ranked 267th in the Rolex Women's Rankings, and Malaysia's No.1 women's professional, is thrilled to see how her game measures up against the best in the world.

"Yeah, I'm excited to get this week going, especially coming in as a more experienced player and playing with some of the best on the tour and in the world. You know, so just seeing how my game is faring now compared to where it was before, it's definitely grown a lot," shared Oon.

Ashley Lau, hailing from Bintulu, Sarawak, is also eagerly looking forward to soaking in the experience she will gain this week.

"As a rookie out here, it just feels a little surreal to be around LPGA players. I'm savoring every moment and trying to enjoy every aspect of the course out here," said Lau

Maybank's ASEAN Ambassador and LPGA Tour player Kelly Tan is not only excited to be playing on home soil but also to welcome back the fans at the event. She is prepared to embrace the pressure that comes with it.

"I’m going to take as much as I can from this week, and I know it's going to be challenging playing at home with all the expectations around us, but I think those are positive things because people believe in us. I'm going to channel that positive energy and go out there and do my best and see where I can place," said Tan.

Alyaa Abdulghany, preparing for the second-to-last event of the year, will be focused on sticking to her routine.

"I'm a different player than I was in Malaysia. In terms of that, my game plan doesn't really change. I'm going to stick to my routine, prepare as best I can, and just enjoy this week, doing my best," she shared.

Malaysia's top amateur and Pepperdine University sophomore, Jeneath, is excited to be heading out once again into the professional field after her debut at this year's U.S Women's Open.

"I don't have many expectations or goals here. I just want to do my best and see how I perform. I want to make the most of the tour, gain experience playing with all the top elite players, and learn from them," said Wong.

Completing the Malaysian lineup this week is fifteen-year-old Ng Jing Xuen who made history by becoming the first-ever Malaysian women's golfer to achieve an individual gold medal in this year's Southeast Asian Games.

"For the next few days, the environment will be very different, as it's the LPGA and it's a very big event. But I would also like to treat it as any other event, and that will be my mindset this week," noted Ng when asked about how she is approaching the event.
