Brooks Koepka demonstrated his championship mettle as he claimed his fifth major title with a resounding victory at the 2023 PGA Championship held at Oak Hill Country Club.

In a compelling final round, Koepka initially built on his overnight lead by making birdies at the second, third, and fourth holes. Hovland matched his every move, ensuring a thrilling contest until the pivotal moment. Koepka's ability to stay focused amidst the pressure ultimately proved decisive. 

The turning point arrived at the 16th hole when Hovland encountered trouble from a bunker, resulting in a costly double bogey. Koepka seized the opportunity, hitting a precise approach shot and converting it into a crucial birdie, extending his lead to a commanding four strokes with only two holes remaining. Despite a valiant comeback effort by Scottie Scheffler, Koepka held firm, securing the title. 

Koepka finished the tournament at nine-under par, with Hovland and Scottie Scheffler sharing second place at seven-under par.

Reflecting on his achievement, Koepka expressed his elation and gratitude during the trophy presentation.

"This is incredible. I’m just so happy right now, I’m kind of at a loss for words. This is just the coolest thing." Koepka further acknowledged the significance of his accomplishment, stating, "To be with those names (winning five Majors) is incredible, I’m not even sure I dreamed of it as a kid. I’m just so happy to do it for these New York fans."

Viktor Hovland, despite falling short of victory, recognized Koepka's remarkable performance and acknowledged his deserving win.
Hovland remarked, "Brooks played awesome golf today, he made a lot of putts and hit a lot of great shots, and he deserved to win."

Hovland's own consistent play throughout the tournament highlighted his potential as a formidable contender in future majors.

The 2023 PGA Championship also featured notable performances from other players. Scottie Scheffler's impressive closing round propelled him to a share of second place and reclaimed his position at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking.

Additionally, PGA Professional Michael Block captured the admiration of fans with an inspiring performance, including a memorable hole-in-one on the 15th hole and a commendable tie for 15th place, securing his spot in the 2024 PGA Championship.

Brooks Koepka's victory at the 2023 PGA Championship solidified his status as one of the game's elite players. With his fifth major title, Koepka joined an exclusive group of golfing legends, which includes Seve Ballesteros, James Braid, Byron Nelson, J.H. Taylor and Peter Thomson.
