Malaysia’s Natasha Andrea Oon scored a superb six-under-par 66 on the final day of the Casino Del Sol Golf Classic to finish one shot behind Gigi Stoll on Sunday.

The 21-year-old Malaysian signed in 13-under-par for the tournament following rounds of 68, 70, and 71 over the first three days at the Sewailo Golf Club.

Recording seven birdies against one bogey on the final day, Oon was just short on a birdie putt on the 18th to close out the round and force a playoff with Stoll.

“I chickened out on the last putt which was a little bit sad,” said Oon.

“But honestly, I’m just really glad that I’m able to go low. This course really sets you up to go low and there’s a lot of reachable par fives. I’m really proud of myself for putting in as many putts as I did today,” she added.

A final round of four-under-par 68 sealed the deal for Stoll, who secured her first Epson Tour victory at 14-under-par.

Rounding out the top five were Lindsey McCurdy and Clariss Guce sharing third place at 12-under and Daniela Iacobelli in solo-fifth place at 11-under. McCurdy and Guce both signed for a final round 66, while Iacobelli finished two-under-par on the day.

Another Malaysian in the field, Ashley Lau, unfortunately did not make it through the halfway cut after carding in a pair of 75s over the first two days of the event. 

Following another impressive week with a solo second finish, the Malaysian has made herself known on the tour early in the season and is determined to maintain her form. With an upcoming three-week break, Oon will spend time with her team and intends to focus on improving her game and preparing to compete for a victory when she returns.

Oon said: “I just want to work harder. This tells me that I’m doing good, but I’m a very self-critical person and I know what I need to work on.”

“I can’t wait for the off weeks to see my coach and my people. It makes me feel really good that I can go home with a good result.”

The Epson Tour will be taking a three-week break before returning to Copper Rock Golf Course for the Copper Rock Championship which is set to be held from 27 to 29 April.
