Malaysia's Natasha Andrea Oon came close to clinching her maiden Epson Tour title after finishing one shot behind China's Miranda Wang at the IOA Championship presented by Morongo Casino Resort and Spa.

The Epson Tour rookie opened her campaign with a blistering six-under-par 66, which included seven birdies and one bogey, to share the first-round lead with American Maddi Caldwell-Young. Following a second round of four-under-par 68, Oon maintained her lead and was joined by Young and Wang, who recorded rounds of 68 and 65, respectively for the day.

Heading into the final day at 10-under-par, Oon did well to maintain her composure on the front nine with no bogeys and one birdie on the 9th

She said: “Being in the last group, putts are 10 times harder. My hands were shaking the whole time.”

Despite dropping shots on the 14 and 15, Oon immediately bounced back with back-to-back birdies on the 16 and 17. However, a bogey on the par-four 18th saw the Malaysian fall one shot short of Wang's total of 12-under-par. 

“It was so cool to see everyone compete for it, and I did feel the nerves, but hopefully next time I’ll be able to overcome them. But honestly, I’m really proud of myself for this week,” said Oon.

Solo third place went to Young after carding a final round of one-over-par 73 to finish at nine-under-par 207.

Another Malaysian in the field, Alyaa Abdulghany, finished in T42 on one-over-par 216 after signing in rounds of 74, 69 and 73.

With three starts on the Epson Tour, Oon has not missed a cut so far. This was her second top-10 finish of the season since the season-opening Florida's Natural Charity Classic, where she claimed a joint seventh position.
