As part of this year’s HSBC Women’s World Championship, HSBC has shown its commitment to providing more opportunities to Singapore’s community alongside some of the biggest stars in golf.

To help raise funds and awareness for this year’s tournament beneficiary, the Autism Resource Centre (ARC) and their talented artists, HSBC organised a visit for Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn and USA’s Alison Lee to The Art Faculty – ARC’s social enterprise which celebrates the abilities of local artists on the autism spectrum.

The players, alongside Wong Kee Joo, Chief Executive, HSBC Singapore, met local artists Grace Ong and Selena Seow whose artworks will feature on bespoke AR golf ball designs used for HSBC’s tournament social media contest – ‘Play for Good’.

‘Play for Good’ allowed both artists to earn royalties for their designs used on HSBC’s social media filter with fans and participants having a chance to win prizes by taking part (click here for contest information). HSBC will also donate to the ARC(S) when participants post a video with the filter and tag HSBC. To further support the ARC, the Bank also helped set up a pop-up booth at the tournament fan village, allowing the talented artists to showcase their designs to visitors and to earn royalties from the sale of their artwork and merchandise. HSBC employees from Singapore also lent their support by volunteering throughout the four tournament days.

Jacelyn Lim, Executive Director, ARC(S) said: “We are grateful for the strongs upport from HSBC in spotlighting the abilities of persons on the autism spectrum at this international event. We hope that there will be greater awareness and acceptance of their strengths and abilities, and that society will embrace and integrate the autism culture into our workplaces and everyday lives.”

Amanda Tan and Michelle Wie at the HSBC Clinic.

This week also saw HSBC welcome and host over 30 children from local golf clubs to Sentosa Golf Club. This included going behind-the-scenes at the tournament for a clinic hosted by 2018 HSBC Women’s World Championship winner Michelle Wie and local Singapore golf star, Amanda Tan.

Many of the children in attendance are following in the footsteps of Amanda by also playing in the HSBC Youth Golf Challenge - that helped her golfing journey in representing Singapore at the HSBC Women’s World Championship.

Amanda Tan said: “I remember attending a clinic here when I was young with HSBC and now being able to meet LPGA stars. It’s amazing now for me to be
able to inspire the next generation of Singaporean juniors myself. Hopefully we’ll see more local youngsters make it on the LPGA tour and play in this tournament one day. I played in the HSBC Youth Golf Challenge, like a lot of these kids, so hopefully they’re able to follow in my footsteps.”
