Melbourne-based Jeneath Wong is looking forward to starting her collegiate golf journey at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

The 18-year-old is excited to be part of The Waves, as the Pepperdine golf team is known, and can't wait to see what's in store for the next chapter of her golfing career.

"I head to the United States on the 2nd of January and I'm definitely thrilled to play for Pepperdine in many top amateur tournaments against the best players from around the world soon," shared Jeneath, who is Malaysia's top-ranked women's amateur.

"I chose Pepperdine because of the family-like environment it gives, as it is a small private university which makes it more special and a better fit for me. And also the environment, being in Malibu, California, without a doubt I will be able to play golf all year round and compete," she added.

From achieving a bronze medal in the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) back in May to finishing T26 in her very first ISPS Handa Australian Open, Jeneath's achievements keep piling as she continues to learn and grow with each event. Jeneath's Australian Open outing, playing against leading professionals, was both a learning curve and an inspirational experience.

"I learnt a lot in playing in my first Australian Open and how different pros approach the hole, just through playing different kind of shots. I have also learnt that my level or capability in hitting a shot is similar to those pros and that maybe in a few years time I can maybe do the same and turn pro and play on the LPGA tour. And yes, I’m very happy with my performance in being able to make both cuts of the tournament and finishing T26," noted Jeneath.

Her most recent milestone featured back-to-back victories at the Port Phillip Open Amateur and Victoria Amateur Championship held at Kingston Heath Golf Club and Royal Melbourne Golf Club respectively. The Port Phillip Open, which was played in strokeplay format, acted as a qualifying for the matchplay rounds at the Victoria Amateur.

"It feels amazing winning the Port Phillip and being qualified in first place for the matchplay put me in a really good position and I felt a lot more confident. Also, I have finished second in both tournaments two years in a row (2020,2021) so I have finally been able to win it this year, which feels immaculate," said Jeneath, who was all smiles after clinching the two titles.

The soon-to-be Pepperdine freshman has had a superb year of golf with multiple titles under her belt and a number of professional starts. When asked about how she was feeling about her game currently, Jeneath simply wants to remain consistent and confident for the months to come.

"My game has been pretty consistent and I’m quite happy with how my game is tracking so far," noted Jeneath.
