Close to 100 enthusiastic golfers from across Malaysia made their way to Glenmarie Golf & Country Club for the inaugural Glenmarie Longest Drive Competition presented by Mazda, which concluded on December 1 with the successful staging of the Grand Final.
Co-sponsored by MST Golf and Trackman, the competition featured three qualifying rounds leading over a two-month period up to the grand final, offering RM20,000 worth of prizes which included green fees, hotel stays and cash vouchers. All participants received exclusive goodies from both Mazda and Glenmarie.
Open to all amateur golfers, the competition was held at Hole 1 of Glenmarie's award-winning Garden Course. Each participant was given 10 attempts within a five-minute time limit, with only drives that ended up within the fairway's marked areas eligible to be recorded.
“The response was overwhelming although this was the first ever longest drive competition held in Glenmarie Golf & Country Club. So, we are happy to announce that the Glenmarie Longest Drive Competition will be held annually from now on, and we will ensure that the next one will be bigger, better, and longer,” said Glenmarie's Club Manager, Nor Afendi Mohd Razlan.
At the final, Takuya Osaki emerged as the champion in the men's open category with a massive drive of 294.6m, which was significantly longer than his qualifying drive of 281m.
Following in second place was Nasrullah Zulkifli with a 278.1m effort, well below his 306m drive during the qualifying rounds. Glenmarie member Kim Min Chul finished in third place with an effort of 274.6m.
In the ladies' open category, Ho Jo Yee crushed a 206.4m drive to win the title, while Arnie walked away with second place after hitting a drive of 178.4m.
