Mirabel Ting will be participating in an international field of up to 72 women amateurs at the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur that will be taking place from April 3-6.

The Champions Retreat Club in Augusta will be hosting the first 36 holes of the event before switching to Augusta National for the final round featuring the players who make the cut.

The Florida State University sophomore, who’s ranked 31st in the world and currently the number one ranked women's amateur in Malaysia, will be the fifth Malaysian to make an appearance in the tournament.

Ting who hails from Miri, Sarawak, is beyond thrilled and excited to make her maiden appearance in the prestigious championship.

“I'm really honoured to be invited and be part of a prestigious event and have the opportunity to play against the world's top players," shared Ting who began the year with a victory at the Orlando International Women's Amateur Open.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a stellar collegiate journey so far. Having transferred from Augusta University to Florida State University, Ting was named Women's Golf Coach Association (WGCA) Division 1 All-American, whilst also being one of the five golfers named to the Division 1 WGCA Freshman of the Year Presented by Strackaline Watch List in 2023.

During Ting's summer break last year, she impressively clinched three individual titles, namely the TSM Golf Challenge, the Vietnam Ladies Amateur Open, and the RSGC Ladies Amateur Open.

"My game has gone pretty well and is currently thriving on the right path but there's definitely room for improvement," said Ting.

When asked how she feels about heading into the championship and 2024 thus far, Ting shared that she will be looking forward to enjoying the experience of joining the field in Augusta with little expectations.

"I don't think I will have many expectations going into the championship, and being able to compete in such a competitive field is already such an honour itself. I'm looking forward to soaking up the moment and having the chance to play in Augusta!"

With the collegiate spring season soon in full swing, Ting's first event will be the IJGA Invitational to be held at Guadalajara Country Club, Mexico.

"I've been loving every moment at Florida State so far, and excited to play with my teammates this spring season," noted Ting.

Top-ranked Malaysians who have previously competed in the event include Jeneath Wong, Loy Hee Ying, Alyaa Abdulghany, and Ashley Lau. No Malaysian has yet to enter the final round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
