The return of the Saujana-100PLUS Junior Championships saw Josiah Edwards and Yan Yinuo clinch the boys' and girls' overall titles respectively at Saujana Golf and Country Club.
Opening his campaign with an impressive one-under par 71, Perth-based Edwards followed up with scores of 75 and 71 to eventually clinch his maiden international title on Malaysian soil.
"It’s been an up-and-down week for me, but I’m overall happy with how everything turned out. I’m proud to be bringing this title back home," shared the 16-year-old.
In addition to his trophy, Edwards was also given an opportunity by the Asian Development Tour to participate in the upcoming PKNS Selangor Masters which is scheduled to be held in November.
Daichi Hayashi, who began the final round four shots behind Edwards, closed the event with a low round of three-under 69 to secure runner-up honors. One shot adrift in third place was Nathan Wong Tsen Jac after carding a one-under par 71.
In the girls' division, Yan Yinuo took home the title in dramatic fashion, winning in a one-hole playoff over overnight leader Wang Xin Yao. Yan scored a final round of two-under par 70 to force a sudden-death match with Wang.
"I wasn’t thinking about it much during the round, I only focused on playing it one shot at a time," shared Yan.
Asked if she was nervous during the playoff, Yan admitted that she tried her best to keep her composure.
"It’s my first playoff, so I was pretty nervous," she added.
Yan kept her nerve to prevail in a nail-biting finish to the event, scoring a par on the first extra hole to win against Wang and claim the overall girls' champion title.
Meanwhile, Nur Batrisyia Balqia Abdul Ghani signed in a one-over par 73 to secure third place at 12-over par 228.
In the Under 15 category, Joshua Lim Zhi Xing and Aarthi Ganesan both finished in first place on 19-over par 235 in the boys’ and girls’ divisions respectively.
