Sam Houston State University junior Zulaikah Nasser claimed her fourth collegiate victory after winning The Beach Invitational held at Mission Viejo Country Club on February 27-28.
Despite weather delays and tough conditions, the top Malaysian amateur pulled through with a six-over par finish to lay three shots ahead of Long Beach State’s Hannah Ko and Andrea Bergsdottir of Colorado State, who both signed in nine-over par for the tournament.
Zulaikah, who was experiencing aches and a mild concussion from a car crash on the Monday of tournament week, emphasized the importance of a good mindset for a player.
“I had a lot on my plate during the week … my hips and back were aching due to the accident and prior injuries, but I told myself to stay positive and keep pushing through despite everything,” she said.
And push through she did.
Zulaikah never gave up and carded rounds of 77, 71 and 74 to lead her team to fourth placing overall.
The 20-year-old college junior experienced her maiden victory back in 2021 after winning the USA Intercollegiate, and went on to bag two more titles within the span of two years.
