Following three days of gruelling competition, Malaysian representatives Malcolm Ting and Geraldine Wong took home the men’s and ladies’ individual titles respectively at the South Sulawesi Amateur Open Series II, played at Padivalley Golf Club near Makassar city.
Ting clinched a wire-to-wire victory after carding impressive rounds of 66, 70 and 71 to finish with a total of nine-under par. Five shots behind in second place was Indonesia’s Rayhan Abdul Latief on four-under par. Following in third place was fellow Indonesian Randy Aerbenata Mohamad Bintang with a three-under par total.
In the men’s team event, Indonesia’s Team One which comprised Randy, Kenneth Henson Sutianto and Jordan Indra Marcello clinched first-place honours with a total score of 286 over two days. Malaysian duo Ting and Muhammad Afif Mohd Fathi settled for third place with a total of 289, just two strokes behind Indonesian Team Three.
Meanwhile in the ladies’ division, Wong closed with a superb two-under par 70 to finish with a winning total of one-over par and claimed a two-shot victory over Indonesia’s Kristina Natalia Yoko. Malaysian teammate Ng Jing Xuen placed third with a four-over par total after scoring a hole-in-one at the par-three 6th.
Ladies Indonesian Team One, comprising Kristina, Reicherin Giftrudy Hanlskie and Sania Talita Wahyudi, bagged first place in the ladies team event with a total of 292, while Malaysia followed in second place thanks to Wong and Ng’s 296 total.
