Malaysia's Natasha Oon chalks up best LPGA finish with T49 at Dana Open
Malaysian rookie professional Natasha Andrea Oon chalked up her best finish on the LPGA Tour with a T49 performance at the Dana Open presented by Marathon in Sylvania, Ohio.
The 20-year-old talent opened her campaign with successive 70s at the par-71 Highland Meadows Golf Club to make the halfway cut by two shots. Oon followed up with two 69s over the weekend for a six-under-par total, 12 shots behind winner Gaby Lopez of Mexico. Malaysian ladies' number one Kelly Tan missed the halfway cut after rounds of 75 and 71.
Oon, who turned professional in June this year following a standout amateur collegiate career with San Jose State University, is playing the Monday qualifier for this week's Kroger Classic at Kenwood Country Club in Cincinnati.
Her next confirmed LPGA start is at the AmazingCre Portland Classic in Portland, Oregon, on September 15-18. Like the Dana Open, she received an exemption into the event as the recipient of the 2022 Inkster Award given to the highest-ranked women’s NCAA Division 1 golfer in her final year of eligibility.
Oon will also be exempt into Stage 2 of LPGA Qualifying School at Plantation Golf & Country Club in Venice, Florida, this October 18-21.
In her first LPGA start as a professional in June, Oon missed the cut in the Meijer LPGA Classic by three shots after rounds of 76 and 69. She also played in April's Chevron Championship as an amateur, missing out of the weekend after rounds of 74 and 73.
Prior to heading to the United States for college, Oon played in two editions of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia with her best finish in the now-defunct event being 67th in the final edition in 2017.
