Maybank Championship 2024 to host ASEAN Qualifier ahead of second edition
The Maybank Championship is set to return with the LPGA Tour for the second consecutive year, featuring a new highlight: the ASEAN Qualifier. This addition aims to empower non-LPGA ASEAN female professional and amateur golfers to compete in this prestigious tournament.
Taking place from October 24th to 27th at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club's (KLGCC) West Course, the Maybank Championship will feature top international golfers competing for a prize purse of USD 3 million, the highest in the region. Last year's tournament included stars like Céline Boutier, Nelly Korda, Lydia Ko, and Ruoning Yin, with Boutier winning after a dramatic nine-hole play-off against Atthaya Thitikul.
The introduction of the Maybank Championship ASEAN Qualifier underscores Maybank's commitment to supporting local talent. Scheduled for August 27th and 28th at the KLGCC's West Course, this event offers ASEAN female golfers an exclusive chance to earn five coveted spots in the championship in October.
This 36-hole qualifier is open to professionals and amateurs from ASEAN countries, such as Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, providing a unique opportunity to compete at an international level and among the world's best.
Applications for the qualifier close on August 9th, 2024. Female professional golfers with a valid card from a recognized Tour body (excluding the LPGA) and female amateur golfers with a World Handicap System (WHS) index of 2.0 or below are encouraged to apply.
