KLPGA No. 1 Lee Yewon set to make mark in Thailand at Blue Canyon Ladies Championship
KLPGA ace Lee Yewon eagerly anticipates her debut in Thailand at the Blue Canyon Ladies Championship, scheduled from March 15th to 17th. She aims to glean valuable insights from the challenging yet stunning Blue Canyon Country Club, priming herself for the 2024 season.
This prestigious tournament, jointly hosted by Blue Canyon Country Club and the KLPGA Tour, spans three years and boasts a total prize purse of USD 650,000 (approximately 22,750,000 Thai Baht). Featuring a 3-day stroke play competition over 54 holes without a cut, it marks the second event of the 2024 KLPGA Tour season after the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore from March 7th to 10th.
Expressing her enthusiasm, the 2023 KLPGA Order of Merit winner shares her excitement for this inaugural venture abroad, particularly in Thailand. "I view playing golf internationally as an invaluable opportunity for personal growth," she remarked. "I'm well-prepared for the season and will be 100% ready when the tournament starts."
Admitting her unfamiliarity with the Blue Canyon course, she acknowledges, "While I'm aware of its beauty and reputation for presenting numerous challenges, I'll approach the game with added caution, emphasizing accuracy and short play."
"This marks my first tournament in Thailand," she said. "I anticipate it will offer a unique chance to compete on Thai soil and learn from international peers."
She revealed her tournament aspirations: "My aim is a top 5 finish. Secretly, I hope for victory, but I'll give my all and trust this event will serve as a significant milestone, much like last season."
In addition to witnessing KLPGA Tour luminaries, fans will rally behind 11 Thai female golfers, including seasoned players like LPGA veteran Pornanong Phatlum, 2022 Asian Games individual gold medalist Arpichaya Yubol, and three-time Thai LPGA No. 1 Patcharajutar Kongkraphan, Sherman Santiwiwattanaphong, Budsabakorn Sukapan, Wassawan Sangkapong,
Phannarai Meesom-us, Ornkanok Soisuwan, Thanita Muangkhumsakul, Kornkamol Sukaree and national player Navaporn Soontreeyapas, the only amateur in this tournament.
The tournament is proudly sponsored by Siang Pure, Peppermint Field, ANew Golf, and SParms (Sun Protect+). Golf enthusiasts can catch the action live on True Visions' True Sport 5 channel from March 15th to 17th, 13:00-16:00.
