Local professionals Muhammad Danial Faidz Jazmi and Nor Heikal Nor Hadi claimed their spots to compete in the upcoming IRS Prima Malaysian Open, topping the 35-player field in today's qualifying round hosted by the PGA of Malaysia (PGAM) at Seri Selangor Golf Club.

Danial clinched medalist honours with a solid round of five-under-par 67, trading six birdies against one bogey for the day.

"It was a good day. Everything was in control and I stayed as patient as I could out there, which contributed to the good score," said Danial.

Expressing his excitement for the return of the Malaysian Open, Danial said, "It's going to be a great opportunity for our local professionals to gain more exposure since it's one of the events that we've been waiting on for so long since the last Malaysian Open."

For Nor Heikal Nor Hadi, it was a fist-pumping moment when the 23-year-old successfully earned his spot after emerging victorious in a three-way playoff against Kim Leun Kwang and Khavish Varadan.

"Really happy and excited to be playing the IRS Prima Malaysian Open, since my last Asian Tour start was the Bandar Malaysian Open back in 2020," shared Nor Heikal.

With their spots in the Asian Tour event confirmed, the duo will be intensifying their preparations by polishing up their games leading up to the tournament.

Danial noted, "Just going to make sure I'll be getting back into a good rhythm, and making sure I'll be having enough rest so I'll be fit for the championship week!"

While Nor Heikal on the other hand, aims to focus on his short game, "I'm looking to improve my putting. It's been a goal of mine to minimise my three-putts, so my focus will be on that."

The 62nd edition of the Malaysian Open welcomes an impressive field of 144 players from the Asian Tour and Malaysia that will compete from 15-18 February at The Mines Resort & Golf Club.
