Inaugural MGA Junior Open Championship at Tanjung Puteri to provide sought-after competitive experience for young golfers

Avid junior golfers will get an opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive environment when the inaugural MGA Junior Open Championship kicks off next week.

The tournament, announced recently by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA), will take place at Tanjung Puteri Golf Resort, Pasir Gudang in Johor from March 8-10.

Open to youngsters between 12 and 18 years of age, the tournament is designed to promote junior golf while providing a fun and challenging experience for participants.

It will comprise two categories: the Gross Champion (Boys and Girls), further categorised into Boys A (15- 18 years old), Boys B (12-14 years old), Girls A (15-18) and Girls B (12-14), as well as the NJDP Cup (Boys & Girls) with prizes awarded to the top five finishers in the Gross Champion and the top three finishers in the NJDP Cup.

The tournament will also provide an opportunity for junior golfers to meet and compete against other young golfers from neighbouring countries.

Conducted by the MGA National Junior Development Program (NJDP), the MGA Junior Open Championship is a 72-hole stroke play event played over Tanjung Puteri’s par-72 Plantation Course (A course) – 6,454m for boys and 5,043m for girls.

"We are excited to host this year's MGA Junior Open Championship," said MGA NJDP Chairman Mohd Fauzi Mesran. "This tournament is a great opportunity for young golfers to test their skills against their peers and gain valuable experience playing in a competitive environment."

Registration for the tournament is now open and interested participants can download the entry form at www.mgaonline.com.my or in-person at the MGA office located at Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur or Tanjung Puteri Golf Resort.

Entry fee for the tournament is RM380 for Malaysians and US$150 for non-Malaysians. Registration closes on March 5.
