The inaugural Selangor International Junior Golf Championship concluded today after three days of intense competition, with Malaysia and Korea claiming the Boys' and Girls' team titles respectively at Seri Selangor Golf Club.

The Malaysia A quartet of Hariz Hezri (72, 78, 75), Nor Haqiem Hadi (75, 78, 79), Muhammad Ajmal Amin (81, 73, 76) and Syed Nor Ismail (78, 82, 78) combined for a total score of 683 to win the Boys' Team title, a massive 22 strokes of Malaysia B.

The Malaysia B side of Muhammad Adif Haikal (81, 86, 80), Nazran Shahrizan (77, 75, 82), Wan Hasnul Daniel (77, 75, 78) and Andrew Yap (85, 85, 77) finished on 705, edging the Korean team of Kim Byeomgyu, Park Gun Do, Bang Min U and Kim Jeongin by two shots.

The Korean Girls' team of Min Young Yu (80, 78, 85), Yeji Park (67, 73, 71) and Hyojin (72, 80, 75) claimed the Girls' Team title with a combined score of 681. Malaysia A, represented by Foong Zi Yu (77, 73, 73), Wang Xin Yao (76, 84, 75), Ng Jing Xuen (73, 81, 75) and Alya Afza (84, 82, 79), fought hard on the final day but fell short by four strokes.

Malaysian team manager Shairul Erwin Samsudin said: “I am happy that the two Malaysian boys’ teams won first and second place at the Inaugural Selangor International Junior Golf Championship against top juniors in the region. Kudos to the Malaysia’s girls’ team for their perseverance to win second place in the Team Event.”

China's Wang Yixiang won Boy’s Individual title with a total of 216, nine shots ahead of Malaysia’s Hariz Hezri on 225. With the win, Wang earned a start in this year's Selangor Masters.

The Girls' Individual event saw Korea’s Yeji Park triumphing with a five-under-par 211 total, 12 shots clear of Malaysia’s Foong Zi Yu (223). Park won an all-expenses paid entry into the 119th Malaysia Amateur Open. 

Ng and Wang Xin Yao will receive schoardships worth RM70,000 and RM50,000.00 respectively if they choose to enroll at UUMISM. The scholarships were awarded to the best local finishers.

His Royal Highess the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah was the Guest of Honour for the prize presentation ceremony, 

Conducted by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) and UUM International School Melaka (UUMISM), the Selangor International Junior Golf Championship attracted a total of 105 players from Korea, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Malaysia. The championship was open to boys and girls aged from 12 to 18 years with handicap indices of eight and below.

“To see these teams come out and to see how much it meant to everyone involved is really something special,” said MGA President Admiral Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor (R).

“I think this event is an important part of the MGA’s Fixtures. When you think about the future of golf, it is these players. Many of them will be playing in the major events in the future and we are happy to help prepare them for it with this event.”
