Malaysia's young talent Ng Jing Xuen made history by winning a playoff against Thailand's Eila Galitsky to clinch a medal in the women's individual competition at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Opening her campaign with a solid 67, Ng followed up with impressive rounds of 69 and 67 at the Garden City Golf Club to tie with Galitsky (69-66-67) on the final day at 13-under par 203. Following an extra hole at the par-four 9th, Galitsky's drive to the rough gave the advantage to Malaysia's Ng, who kept her composure to clinch the gold medal after signing in a par, while the Thai took silver medalist honours with a bogey.

Adding a bronze medal to this year’s SEA Games outing so far, Foong Zi Yu carded in rounds of 72, 69 and 69 to finish third on eight-under par 208.

The third Malaysian participating in the women’s individual event was Geraldine Wong, who closed the tournament on 6-over par 222 (75-76-71) and finishing in T12.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Malcolm Ting and Anson Yeo signed in a two-under par 70 and one-under par 71 respectively on the final round to be tied with Vietnam’s Anh Minh Nguyen from Vietnam at 9-under par 207.

Initiating a three-way playoff for silver medalist honours, 20-year-old Ting successfully secured the silver medal in the men’s individual event after beating fellow compatriot Yeo and Anh Minh of Vietnam in the thrilling sudden death match.

Looking to replicate their last year’s success of bagging two golds, one silver and one bronze, Team Malaysia will be giving it their all in the men’s and women’s team competitions which start tomorrow at the same venue.
