Kelab Golf Seri Selangor (KGSS) celebrated 25 years of being at the forefront of the public golf sector in Malaysia by staging a 25th Anniversary Golf tournament on Sunday, March 19.

The game was followed by a lunch prize presentation attended by Selangor Chief Minister Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari. KGSS is owned by the Selangor state government’s development arm, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS).

Beginning April 1, 2023, KGSS will be managed by a new company, PKNS Golf Management Services Sdn Bhd. In his speech, Dato’ Seri Amirudin noted that this new golf management arm of PKNS will not only manage state-owned clubs but will also explore other golf-related businesses such as golf course design, golf academies, sponsorship and player management.

This, he stressed, will help drive the development of the game and increase the number of prestigious tournaments in the state, while also boosting tourism and creating more job opportunities.

KGSS offers a scenic and challenging 18-hole course crafted by Australian architect Ross Watson, which is widely rated as one of the most challenging layouts in the country. The par-72 tract features lush, tree-lined fairways leading to tricky and super-fast greens.

The club has hosted numerous international events including the Asian Tour's Selangor Masters on six occasions. The inaugural Selangor Masters teed off at KGSS in 2008, which was won by Malaysia’s Ben Leong, and it returned to the club in 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014.

Last year, the Selangor Masters made a welcome return as an Asian Development Tour event with rising Malaysia star Shariffuddin Ariffin winning in dramatic style by two shots over Thailand’s Denwit Boriboonsub.

KGSS Chief Executive Officer Mohd Zubir Idrus was elated at the momentous milestone reached by the club.

“Seri Selangor has built an outstanding reputation as a leader within the golfing industry. More importantly, Seri Selangor has been recognised for its achievements as one of the best maintained golf courses with superior greens and a challenging layout.

“As a truly public golf course, KGSS has no members. However, we have a huge community of golfers that has been actively supporting the club be it in normal golf games, corporate tournaments and international events like the Selangor Masters,” noted Mohd Zubir.
