Limited Edition COBRA LIMT3D Irons: Forgiveness Crafted in 3D
When it comes to pushing the boundaries of golf club design, COBRA Golf is no stranger to innovation. Their latest masterpiece, the LIMIT3D irons, marks a monumental leap in the world of golf clubs as they introduce the first set of commercially available 3D-printed steel irons. Following their pioneering 3D-printed steel putter in 2020 and a complete line of KING 3D-printed multi-material putters in 2021, COBRA's engineers set their sights on revolutionizing iron design using the same cutting-edge technology.
Partnering with nTop, a trailblazer in computational design software, COBRA embarked on a mission to craft a compact player's blade that offers the forgiveness of a game-improvement club without sacrificing the feel of a forged iron. The result? The LIMIT3D irons are a groundbreaking achievement in both performance and manufacturing.
"COBRA is always exploring new technologies to enhance our products and performance," said Mike Yagley, Vice President of Innovation & AI at COBRA Golf. "nTop’s computational design tools and 3D printing allowed us to create a design that looks and feels like a forged blade but performs like a game-improvement iron. No one has achieved this before, and we're thrilled to introduce these unique irons to golfers everywhere."
The challenge in iron design has always been balancing forgiveness with the sleek profile favored by better players. COBRA's mission was to create an iron that retains the compact shape and feel of a blade while providing the forgiveness aspiring players need. Traditional methods like casting and forging simply couldn't achieve this, but with nTop's software and 3D printing technology, COBRA made the impossible possible.
The LIMIT3D irons boast a fully 3D printed 316L stainless steel body with an innovative internal lattice structure, allowing 33% of the clubhead's weight to be repositioned without compromising strength. This design enables up to 100g of tungsten to be placed in the heel and toe areas, resulting in a low center of gravity (CG) and an exceptionally high moment of inertia (MOI) for its compact size.
The outcome is a blade shape with low CG, high forgiveness, and impressive distance—comparable to COBRA’s KING TEC or TEC-X irons.
Moreover, the combination of nTop’s design software and additive manufacturing accelerated COBRA's prototyping process. Engineers could rapidly iterate designs and optimize internal mass distribution and acoustics, producing a final product that exceeded expectations in aesthetics, performance, and feel.
"Our new Limited-Edition 3D Printed irons reflect COBRA's commitment to pushing the limits of performance and technology," said Jose Miraflor, Vice President of Product Architecture at COBRA Golf. "These irons represent the most significant technological advancement in the category in the past 20 years and offer a glimpse into the future of golf club design."
With only 500 sets available worldwide (and just one in Malaysia), the LIMT3D irons are a true collector’s item. Each of the first run 500 sets are marked with 1/500 which truly makes them the “first” of their kind.
Looking to be one of the lucky 500 to own a set of these?
