Maran Hill Golf Resort reopens for play, offering golfers a challenging experience
If you’re en route to Kuantan along the East Coast Expressway and have time for a round of golf, check out Maran Hill Golf Resort located in the town of the same name.
About 45 minutes’ drive from Kuantan and two hours from KL, the par-72 golf course opened for play in 2003 and was designed in-house by the Maran District Council. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic forced its closure until earlier this month, when play resumed after remedial work took it to playable levels.
The hilly golf course measures 6,022 metres from the blue tees with lakes, mature trees and doglegs placing a premium on strategic play. Golfers will need to focus on accuracy and distance control, especially on the approach shots to the smallish and tricky greens.
“We’re still working hard to improve the course conditions, looking at key areas such as the turfing on the greens and drainage,” said Ung Su Tiong of Areno Greentech, the company that is managing the golf course on a 20-year lease.
“We’ve identified three specific holes where extensive work is needed to improve the teeboxes and greens. Work on these holes will start after Hari Raya, with the help of a turf expert from KL,” he added.
Ung noted that they will be organising numerous events to promote the golf course, with a focus on car aficionados.
“We will be starting a series of motoring-related golf events after the fasting month of Ramadan, as they tie in perfectly with the driving experience from KL to Maran along the Karak Highway,” he said.
Maran Hill Golf Resort is the venue for this weekend’s Road To Pahang tournament, a two-day event by Tourism Malaysia which has attracted around 160 golfers.
