Local top amateur Hariz Hezri emerged as the champion in the men's category of the 119th Malaysian Amateur Open, while China's Liu Yujie clinched the women's title.

Carding solid rounds of 73, 69, 75 and 70 to finish on one-under-par 287 at Tiara Melaka Golf & Country Club, 18-year-old Hariz Hezri became the first Malaysian to lift the trophy since Gavin Green in 2012.

"Claiming this title is a testament to my dedication and hard work. The level of competition was intense, and I'm proud to have prevailed," noted Hariz, who hails from Sungai Petani in Kedah.

Finishing one shot adrift in runner-up position was last week's Selangor Amateur Open winner Andrew Yap. The 14-year-old scored a four-day aggregrate of 74, 72, 70, and 72 to be on even-par 288 for the week. Following in third place was Jun Hee Choi of Korea, who won on countback with a total score of one-over-par 289.

In the women's category, China's Liu Yujie completed a wire-to-wire victory with an impressive four-day score of 12-under par 276.

Finishing in second place and as the best Malaysian was Ng Jing Xuen on four-under-par 284, followed by Thailand's Thitikarn Thapasit in third place on two-under-par 286.
